Sewing My Life Together

More Cards, Quilts, and Peacefulness

Over the last few weeks I have been primarily making cards. They are easy, creative, and fun. Also, I do not have any fabric cut out for a quilt, but I do have a bad of fabric that I have printed on and perhaps will make into an art piece. But for now, it’s been cards.

When I am  mood, cards are my favorite things to make. I grad some fabric, embroidery thread, paper and beads and then make each one up as I go. It can take me an hour or so to do these, particularly the garden on the side of the house below.  But I love the ‘flow’ when it is going right and I can make several of these in an evening. I am participating this year in Cambridge Open Studios, and these get sold quickly.

I had triangles and squares left over from a set of pillows I made, so I made an assortment of "House Cards" until I ran out of them.

I had finished a few quilts in the fall but haven’t taken them anywhere to get quilted. So I finally got in touch with Jan Gorman, owner of “Quitlify.com” and reviewed her requirements for machine quilting.

Lo and behold, I had completely forgotten that I need about 4-5 extra inches all around the quilt so it can be mounted on her machine, so I am finding matching scraps to fix these up for her. I am hoping I can get this to her on Friday. I suggest you check her website and blog: she goes by the name of “Quiltify” and you can just Google her.

I am completely blanking on the name of these; I believe these are Tonga Batiks.

This is me trying to sew an extra 4-6 inches on one quilt as I try to get it ready for Quiltify.

And then, for those of you who are not from the Boston area, we have been hit with almost 100 inches of snow in three weeks. This is a very dense area, and there is no more room for snow.

I walked down this sidewalk today:

This is ridiculous. I am thin and barely made it through this portion of the sidewalk.

Often, since most of us have to park on the street, we use “space savers”. That means that after you dig out your parking space, as you pull out of it to go to work, you put a lawn chair, a safety cone, or something  to indicate that that is “your” space and it had better be there when you get home.

Well, my neighbors are quite artistic. I had a big laugh when I saw this.

They used a goose on small stool/table as their spacesaver.

Have a good laugh!

  1. Hi Sue, Take your time. Dealing with some ice dams over here with resulting leakage! My Millie is all covered in plastic to be on the safe side even though my sewing room has not really been affected…better safe than sorry. Hope spring arrives soon! J.
