Well, in my last post I talked about being stalled. Seriously. Looking at my stash, having no ideas, no interest. This week was more of the same. It’s March, it’s been gray and overcast, I’ve been tired, seriously aching for spring and warmth. So, I made a few cards on Wednesday and Thursday night, which were OK but not exciting.
I also auditioned some fabric for a couple of landscapes, tried a bunch (and I did not take photos of all the failures), but the colors and shapes did not ‘take’ or inspire me to keep going. I kind of liked this one below, but it did not grab me…
So I grabbed a book and read instead. (God forbid I should clean house or vacuum!)
On Friday, which was a day off for me, I went to the gym and was considering reviewing a Craftsy course I have waiting online, or signing up for a 4-night quilt class at my local quilt store, or reviewing one of my books for inspiration, when I remembered a conversation I had with Daughter Number 1’s college roommate and friend in Denver. J.
J. is getting married in October and is planning a ‘rustic’ wedding. She wanted a burlap and lace ring bearer pillow. I drew some ideas and sent her some internet ideas but never heard back from her. So, remembering that I still had money from a Christmas gift card to my local fabric store, I called to see if they had burlap. And they did! So I emailed J to say I would make her a sample to see if she liked it, and once the burlap was purchased, sat down and started.
It was easy and fun, and I very much liked the outcome. So did she!
So, via email and texts, we discussed sizes. This one is 8×8, and that’s a little larger than she had planned. So I also made her a 6×6 and a 4×4…..and will put them in the mail to her this week!
I actually enjoyed making these and loved the way they looked when I was done….also, very easy-peasy.
And a little secret…while out shopping for burlap, I stopped by my local arts-and-crafts store which had a huge selection of ribbons, I bought some additional ‘bling’ for my cards….bringing the excitement back!
So, although I have no big projects in mind, I am feeling more ‘in the groove’…although I am also excited to get out on my bicycle and ride beginning this week (another way to distract me from housekeeping or cleaning).
However, to be honest, I have to get into ‘production’ mode with the cards and landscapes….I am participating in a weekend-long Cambridge Open Studios in May, and I need many cards and several landscapes to show and potentially sell. More on that later!
